I'm seeing white folks, esp. white women, adamantly say schools are safe & #COVID19 transmission is not happening much there. I'm also seeing men, mostly white men, insist we need to close schools now without thinking about folks who need to work ir they lose their jobs 1/
or acknowledge the gendered impacts of closing schools down without supports. Privilege is oozing from both these extremes. Racialized folks, poor folks, folks with disabilities, they should be front & center in these discussions. They are bearing the brunt of this pandemic.
To be clear, I support closing schools if that's what it will take but everything that's not essential needs to be closed & folks must be paid to stay home. Pseudo-lockdowns which allow big biz to thrive are not ok. So many "solutions" & hot takes have vested interests baked in.
It's incredibly disappointing to see so many intelligent & otherwise progressive people drop the race, gender & class analyses. /end
And I just read a thread and it looks like I'm subtweeting but I'm not. This has been a thing bothering me for weeks now.
