OLIVIER GIROUD - ARE WE CROSSING A LOT MORE BECAUSE OF HIM?

There is no denying that Giroud's aerial capability is one of the best in the world. However, he's not a one-trick pony. We can still play through the middle and get the effective play out of him...

Goal 1:

Less than 6 months ago we played Wolves on the final game of season 19/20. We ripped through their defense by playing through the middle. Jorginho finds Pulisic who consequently find Mount. Mount puts the ball in the channel for Giroud to finish.

Goal 2:

Once again post project restart last season, Mount, Barkley, and Giroud sliced opened Watford's low block by playing through the middle. It's all about movement and quick passing. Playing through the middle rattles the opposition defenders & breaks their structure.

Goal 3:

Once again late last season, Mount initiates a move through the middle as he sees Giroud dropping just outside the box leaving his marker. From there quick passing and movement create total chaos. It is no surprise that Giroud ends up scoring.

Goal 4:

Another example from last season. This time vs Spurs. A first time ball from Jorg slices the entire defense through the middle. Great movement from Giroud in the box and ultimately leads to his goal.

Goal 5:

This season away to Sevilla, Jorg finds Kai in midfield with a pass that dissects the midfield through the middle. From there Kai drives deep and finds Giroud for his goal. Once again all through the middle and not completely relying on crosses.

Goal 6:

2nd of Giroud's 4 goals vs Sevilla recently came from another movement through the middle. Jorg finds Kova who smartly drops deep to lose his marker. From there great movement from Giroud and brilliant vision from Kova makes the goal happen.

In summary, Giroud's not limited to just crosses. There's a lot more to his game that can be utilized & I hope we start doing this soon if Giroud is to start.
