Perhaps it is a banal point but the internet can be amazing. Here’s a small story. (Short thread)
My father was born in Lwow, a Polish Jew, part of a vanished community, and he was the son and grandson of iron processors and merchants. They had a large successful business called Finkelstein and Fehl.
In 1939 the Soviets invaded and confiscated the business. My grandfather and his brother who owned it were sent to the Gulag. They both survived but not for long. They died soon after, fatally weakened.
We have no souvenirs of the business. Not a screw or even a scrap of paper. It’s lost forever.
However earlier this week on EBay I was searching for Lwow pictures and artifacts and came across a man selling old letters. Completely random stuff. And here is what I found.
I bought it and now we at least have one thing. Isn’t the internet amazing?
