Today is International Day to end Violence against Sex Workers. #IDEVASW

Many people think sex work would be inherently violent or that all violence comes from clients. Let’s remember that violence is something that grows from social marginalisation:
⁃stigma is violence
⁃criminalisation is violence
⁃restrictive laws are violence
⁃police controls are violence
⁃taking away rights is violence
⁃denying free migration is violence
⁃denying agency and self-organisation is violence
⁃refusal to listen to sex workers is violence
⁃gentrification is violence
⁃no access to housing is violence
⁃no access to health care is violence
⁃isolation is violence
⁃being fired from a civvie job for SW is violence
⁃assuming SW can’t be good parents is violence
⁃Internet censorship is violence
⁃Sadly, the whorearchy within our own industry is violence
A few ways to fight violence against sex workers:

- destigmatisation
- decriminalisation
- workers rights
- Self-Organisation and Community Building
- free migration
- alliances with other socio-political movements
- solidarity
