The closing of @PeriscopeCo is sad for me. I've been on the platform almost since the beginning. Through it I've met many friends, including some in real life...
Periscope was the beginning of a new world where anyone could broadcast their reality directly to people all over the world without any intermediary.
Before periscope, a small cadre of journalist and opinion makers filtered or even crafted the reality we were shown. Today it is possible for any individual to show unfiltered reality.
I started on periscope doing a daily 'Walk and Talk' every morning around my neighborhood in Be'er Sheva. People would enter the broadcast shocked that there was normal life here. The media had shown them Israel as a constant war zone or a harsh desert.
I quickly realized that the most sensational thing I could show people from Israel was regular, day to day life!
For the first time in my life I found myself interacting daily with people from all over the world including with people who were supposed to be my enemy. Today there are people from places like Egypt, Morocco, Kuwait, Iran, UAE Saudi Arabia who are my friends.
I have no doubt that this this direct, unfiltered, face to face communication that started on Periscope and spread to other live broadcasting platforms, played no small part in setting the stage for the Peace that is breaking out in our region.
My wife @LearnHebrewTv used Periscope to start teaching people to read Hebrew. Quickly she had thousands of people watching her classes and made them into a book that is now the best seller in its category.
Today I'm sad that this revolutionary platform will soon be no more but. With the end of Periscope, I plan to redouble my engagement with people from all over the world via Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube!
Ultimately it's not the platform that matters. What's important is the ability for us to connect to each other directly that Periscope brought us and won't go away with its demise.
Thank you to the staff of @PeriscopeCo for creating and maintaining this platform. Thank you to all my Periscope friends from around the world!
