The financial merger of Liga MX and MLS is inevitable in some ways. It solves problems for both - MLS & TV, Liga MX & US consumers.

But how will it happen? I'll give three different approaches and the pros and cons.

Option A: North American Super League with Pro/Rel https://twitter.com/bob_morocco/status/1339443618277289984
+Top 10 teams in MLS & Liga MX get promoted into 20 team NASL
+NASL plays even schedule, has champion, bottom 3 get relegated
+MLS & Liga MX remaining teams play in their domestic leagues
+Annual Promotion tournament
+All 3 (NASL, MLS, Liga MX) TV gets sold as bundle
Pros
+True integration across leagues
+The top NASL would arguably be best league in America's
+Huge TV payout

Cons
+Hard to see MLS owners sign off knowing more than 50% chance that their team will be in 2nd division
+Promotion and keeping balance between Liga MX and MLS tricky
OPTION 2: College Football Playoff Model

+Keep leagues seperated like college football conferences
+Have a few interleague regular season games that count in standings
+Crown MLS & Liga MX winners through regular season
+New NASL playoffs with qualified MLS and Liga MX teams
+NASL playoff winner the "true" winner, just like NCAA playoff is the winner vs the individual conference champs

Pros
+No Pro/Rel hurdle to climb with owners
+Minimizes the travel burden
+New tournament would be a big money maker

Cons
+Would fans accept new tourney?
+TV ratings wouldn't skyrocket immediately
+Tricky to manage salary caps

Option 3: Old School Baseball Model

Keep everything the way it is but at the end, the Liga MX and MLS winners play each other for the true championship.

Would have to be immediately after both playoffs
Pros:
+Easiest to implement
+Already sorta exists

Cons:
+Will fans recognize it as the true trophy like the World Series was back when NL and AL didn't play each other?

+No big ratings boon, it's only two more games

+Could easily be seen as an exhibition
Personally, I think Option 1 is the most interesting and bold. But I don't think it's gonna happen.

Option 3 might be what's done in near term but doesn't really solve any of the problems.

Option 2 might be what ends up happening.
