One of the biggest reasons that I get so excited about Bitcoin is that it makes a shockingly good parable for a great many of Christ’s/the Bible’s teachings.

Time for a thread. 👇🏻

Bitcoin’s value prop is decentralized money with a fixed supply. Why is that a big deal? (1/8)
Because decentralized money is not-easily-manipulatable money. Why does that matter? Because easily manipulatable money enables partiality; it allows a small group to benefit at the expense of the many.

But why is partiality a big deal? Sure, it creates distrust, but (2/8)
isn’t that just an example of those privileged few pressing a Darwinian advantage? What’s wrong with that?

Potentially nothing.

But another explanation is that partiality is wrong because God’s design for people includes treating others as they want to be treated. (3/8)
The strong aren’t supposed to tear and devour the weak, but rather they “have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves.” - Romans 15:1

Unlike fiat money, which enslaves and devours the weak, Bitcoin destroys fiat’s zero-sum game by (4/8)
facilitating obedience to the Golden Rule: it allows us to treat the money of others (and thus our neighbors themselves) the way that we want ourselves and our money to be treated.

It’s created by work, not a whim; through self-denial, not immediate self-gratification. (5/8)
How important does Jesus consider loving and treating your neighbor as you would yourself?

He puts it on the same level of importance as loving God himself; it’s half of The Great Commandment. He tells his followers to prioritize the good of their (6/8)
neighbors in the same way that they do their own interests.

He says that one who claims to love God but who doesn’t love his neighbor is a liar, and that the truth does not make its home within such a person.

Bitcoin embodies this: no one can change its monetary supply. (7/8)
An easily manipulatable currency takes advantage of neighbors.

Bitcoin takes a spiritual/metaphysical truth and makes it both understandable and desirable to normal people.

This is what good parables do, and Bitcoin is a great parable. (8/8)
