Let’s set the record straight. The health care workers taking pics and posting/tweeting about receiving their vaccine aren’t bragging and being boastful about being first. We’re saying we trust science. We’re grateful for the glimmer of hope in this pandemic, 1/x
We’re celebrating a victory in a pandemic where before we’ve seen nothing but losses including the fear and despair of our patients in isolation only to be followed by death, the struggle for families who are separated from dying loved ones, the lack of support from the govt, 2/x
The lack of PPE to protect ourselves in the midst of it all, and the uncertainty of when it would all end and what it would look like. We saw our colleagues get ill and in many cases die. We lost our family members and our patients. We were and are down. 3/x
But we didn’t stop. We reused masks, we covered shifts for each other, we cried together and we supported each other through it all. 4/x
And now we have a glimmer of hope and the ability to protect ourselves just a little bit more while we keep showing up and doing the job. So yes, we are celebrating. 5/x
But we know the battle isn’t over and there’s work to be done. We know we need to continue the fight, to educate, to be the example, to wear our masks like the superheroes YOU said we were (not us). 6/x
And we have to be the example because there’s so much, and in some cases warranted, distrust in the health care system. 7/x
And so, yes we posts our vaccine pics, but we will be in the ICUs, clinics, ORs, inpatient wards and EDs, doing our job, but now with a little more protection.
