A shitstorm of media posturing is coming. An important thing to remember:

The CBA says a MLB season is 162 games — it says nothing about fans. If owners want to shorten the season, I'm sure a lot of players would be fine with that, but they have to renegotiate that
A CBA exists to govern literally every single thing about working conditions in a workplace. That is the protection unionized workers fought for in this country. Number of games, in this case, directly equals compensation. Compensation is obviously a crucial part of unionization
Owners don't get to say "the season isn't starting on time because we aren't gonna make as much as we thought we were." There's no "HOW THE OWNERS FEEL ABOUT SOMETHING" clause in a collective bargaining agreement. There is only legally-binding, grievable language
This may seem obvious if you follow us, but it's worth saying directly:

If you're a baseball owner that's making significantly less money than you thought — tough shit, sell the team. If you don't want to sell the team — tough shit, this is the economy capitalists wanted
And if this isn't the economy you want anymore, great! Let's talk about changing it! But your feelings about what profit you should've made don't factor in whatsoever to a CBA that you signed. That CBA happens to require you to pay players for 162 games. That's it 🤷‍♂️
