/20 I've watched the #cryptoart discussions the last couple of days, and decided I wanted to chime in to the discussion with sharing my story of being a small and casual collector
/20 I discovered #cryptoart spring 2019 when I first visited @cryptovoxels. The art galleries blew my mind. I started to follow a couple of artists on Twitter, and I tried to understand what made @Evilvoxels and @j1mmyeth exited about the different art and artists.
/20 I didn’t really get it. Not until I saw «Forget this» https://superrare.co/artwork-v2/forget-this.-8278 and «The memory» https://twitter.com/A_Giant_Swan/status/1230664274852233216 by @A_Giant_Swan
/20 I think it was the combination of the words and the use of colors that hit me first. I found a resonance and an affinity in these artworks that helped me organize and formulate thoughts and emotions that I had been struggling to express.
/20 That experience made me decide that I needed to own a @A_Giant_Swan artwork. @j1mmyeth offered me to buy one from his collection, but none of them felt completely right to me.
/20 The right piece was released a couple of weeks later. When I saw https://superrare.co/artwork-v2/self-care-and-the-spirits-left.-8718and I knew with all of me that this was what I had been waiting for. I took out a good chunk of what I had in Coinbase as crypto savings, and bought my most expensive NFT ever.
/20 Something that I’ve never regretted. I keep visiting this artwork each time I need to watch something uplifting. It fills me with a feeling of peace and joy, and childhood memories of spring.
/20 Some months later, during the @rariblecom hype, I picked up some more affordable artworks from @genoma_digital @silviovieiraart @drawwriteplay and @Evilvoxels. It was rather low risk to buy the pieces I enjoyed when the rari token drops covered up to half the buying price
/20 I enjoyed picking up pretty #cryptoart but eventually the introduction of the market fee on @rariblecom and the rari token collapse increased the risk in buying for fun. Secondary market dried up to, and buying stopped for cash preservation.
/20 With the increasing Ethereum prices, I decided to stop spending to be sure I had enough liquidity to buy into the #NFT projects I knew I wanted to support
/20 Then December came, and @pranksyNFT released his #PranksyAdvent. After some hesitance, I fomoed into buying one. I've enjoyed watching this autumns #cryptoart collaborations, and It seemed to be a good opportunity to get a bit of everything.
/20 On day 2 I got charmed by the cute wolfs from @Lelapinmignon https://twitter.com/pranksyNFT/status/1334011023209205760 , and this part of the text "...MignonWolf who desguise as a reindeer to catch some love" made me smile.
/20 So when @Lelapinmignon and @KristyGlas announced their collaboration, I decided to hit the trigger both on the dragon and https://knownorigin.io/tokens/243778  that I've also wanted for a time. I found that I had to secure these two pieces before the artists grew out of my price range
/20 A lot of creators and artists in this space will grow out of my range. I'm happy for that growth, and I'm really grateful to the artists that keep creating and sharing, and the whale collectors that keep paying for these creations
/20 and in that way allowing me to enjoy and explore new #cryptoart every day. I love to dive into the creations, to explore both the art, and through the art gain a better understanding of myself and my environment.
/20 I think that when I look back to 2020, I will look at the #cryptoart I have in my wallet, and remember the creativity, friendliness and kindness from the artists and communities where these were created
/20 Nothing that happens later will take this year away from us. The crisis that made the online communities our second home for a while. The small size of our communities has allowed for a tight relationships between artists and collectors.
/20 Success and commercialization of #cryptoart will open doors for many. Some people will succeed to outgrow the space. Some will miss the old days. The memories of this time will always be ours. Whatever happens next year, I will always cherish this moment with you all
