This is a brilliant and compelling interview. Chris Donaldson @trojan1963 a retired police inspector of 30 years in the Met. He served though the 1980s, 1990’s and 2000’s. This interview would be an inspiration to many young people. /1 https://twitter.com/triggerpod/status/1339299312757518337
Chris robustly challenges some of dominant ideas about racism in the police today. It’s great that @triggerpod have given him and voice it’s a poor reflection on the MSM they haven’t identified his authoritative voice throughout the BML inspired debates. /2
Of the rift between the black community and police “I don’t hear that rift as much as the so called community leaders, and I say irresponsible MPs” /3
On his experience of racism “The vast majority of people who were racist towards me were black people...calling me Judas, traitor, trying by to set fire to me at Notting Hill carnival” /4
“I had an MP whose still on parliament who called me a Judas and a traitor. I won’t name her but she still sits there.” - Just read that again, shocking. /5
Of attracting black people into the police “Mr Khan, the Mayor said he wants an increase in the percentage of black people in the Met police, 40%. Yet in the same breath he calls them institutionally racist. what a great advert that is.” /6
On his view of a career in the police “I had a very fulfilled and carry varied and rewarding career in the police and I think it a damn shame that young black kids are put off by listening to clowns in the public domain who know nothing about the police.” /7
We have our problems in the UK around race, there are definitely racists out there. We need our leaders to listen to people like Chris our media needs to listen to people like Chris we need the MSM to give voice to other narratives on race in the UK. /8
There is a whole layer of black people who are significant in number who are not signed up to the single narrative peddled and their voice and experience needs to be heard. A wonderful interview thank you @trojan1963 @triggerpod
