Reminder to all the lovely #Vtuber out there that restreaming is an option.
Facebook Gaming and Youtube have been investing into their streaming services lately.
Twitch is only big because they get you while you're young with an exclusivity agreement.
YT and FB allow their
Partners to stream elsewhere.
FB is a bit more draconian about music, but that's what royalty free and creative commons are for.
The DMCA on Twitch isn't over, that was just *2 songs*. Wait until Warner and Universal start getting pissy over all the other songs.
It doesn't make sense, if you want to make this a business and a living, to sign onto an exclusivity agreement with Twitch when you're literally not making enough to live. They have tricked you into thinking it's The Thing To Do because they've gamified it with "achievements"
That mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. You have put all your eggs into a single basket, with no security of your streaming elsewhere. What happens if twitch bans you? Or twitch shuts down? If you don't have a community built up elsewhere, you're boned.
Besides that, most are not making enough to really justify affiliate. An affiliate needs to hit $100 to cash out. That's a couple to several months in between paychecks. By the time that's being made in a month, most are ready for partner.
You don't *need* affiliate to get paid.
Patreon exists, there are your subs.
Various tip services exist, there's your donos. Streamlabs and Streamelements basically have it built in.
Statistically, emotes aren't enough of a factor to move the needle in any real meaningful way.
And if you need to have custom emotes, use Better Twitch TV. Have a discord channel. Both give you ways to have emotes for people to use, one even on stream.
Do you really want to lock yourself into a single platform's audience with no real safety net beyond Twitch's good graces?
You don't *have* to take this advice. You all do you. I just love this community and with Twitch's recent actions I am concerned for you all. At least think about it....
