PART 1
@TWilsonOttawa - for readers who aren’t aware, 15000 rounds is close to the total amount of ammunition that Toronto Police have on hand for the 4000+ Officers employed; except, front-line cops can’t readily access our ammunition stores. Think about that. #cdnpoli https://twitter.com/TWilsonOttawa/status/1339321098878455808
PART 2
If Police had met resistance during the raid, or encountered this criminal organization out of happenstance, there is a high probability we wouldn’t have enough ammunition to effectively mount a defence. Readers should be concerned, luck played a part in this. #cdnpoli
PART 3
Each front-line Officer is issued a 50 round box of 40S&W ammo, once a year, after completing training. Each Officer is issued 3 magazines (15 round capacity) with their Glock 22 pistol. Each magazine is downloaded by 1 round, meaning they have 42 rounds on their person.
PART 4
Let’s say an average Division has 24 Officers “on the road”, and 6 rifles in circulation(each C8 rifle is issued with 3 magazines containing 29 rounds of 5.56 ammo).
1008(pistol) + 522(rifle) = 1530 (approximation of total ammunition in a Division).
PART 5
Most readers may not realize that a number of those Officers are on vacation, off due to injury, off on parental leave, etc. Also, any Officer > with an in custody arrest, Mental Health Apprehension, or that’s responding to a high-priority call, is not available to help.
For the sake of clarity:
Each Officer “on the road” has 42 rounds of ammunition with them. By “can’t readily access”, I was referring to our ammo stores - ammunition to be relied upon should large-scale “event” occur.... 15000 rounds, sounds like it’d fit the bill.
