If Arteta gets sacked, the new manager will have to come in and dance to the tunes of those that run the dressing room to get immediate results which means we're going to be back to square one.
When David Luiz made those horrendous mistakes against Manchester City in the 3-0 league defeat, he came out and stated he should have sorted out his future earlier. It struck me as ‘Give me a new contract, or I will not be able to play at my best.’
Arteta wholeheartedly backed Luiz and gave him a 1-year contract, it had a short-term benefit - we won the FA Cup and secured European qualification. That doesn't happen without Luiz’s leadership and strong displays at the back, especially the semi-final against Manchester City.
It was not just Luiz he backed though, virtually every senior was backed at the start. You look at the team Arteta played on day one. There was Sokratis, Luiz, Ozil, Lacazette. Even Mustafi got chances. Did everything he could to ensure squad harmony for getting results.
To make the next step as a club, we must be ruthless and move on from Luiz and other seniors - most of whom aren’t at the level required or have the wrong attitude. It is about changing the culture of failure that has plagued Arsenal for a number of years.
The fact Arteta said we need 5-6 players tells you how he feels. There is going to be a portion of the dressing room that is against the manager. There will be friction. It had to happen at some point, but it will be towards a greater good.
The Arsenal job is unbelievably unique. Considering the situation we are in and where we want to move makes it very tricky for any manager in the short run. These are my beliefs anyway - I respect the other side though, we all want what is best for Arsenal end of the day.
