Many people are wondering how the 7 times UCL champion #ACMilan is finally aiming for the scudetto after years of failures that made the club a "once upon a time" in football history. Many factors contributed to this recent success, some of which I have explained below.
Maldini insisted on signing experienced players which was against Gazidis's policy and almost led to him resigning, now proving that this mix between youth & experience is necessary. His presence also made the club more appealing, helping attract more sought after young talent
Which plays a role in attracting players within other clubs' watch lists. Players like Theo, Bennacer, & Tonali preferred moving to the club thanks to his presence (among other factors ofcourse). Every transfer window we see him do many changes as the club is currently growing;
Top signings: Leao, Theo, Bennacer, Ibra, Kjaer, Rebic, Alexis, Hauge. Total= €95 million
Current value= >€210 million
He also managed to get rid of most players that were signed for exaggerated prices with no quality in return like Paqueta and Biglia. He also kept wages low
AC Milan had 8 managers in 6 seasons since Allegri's departure, which led to many unnecessary signings and change of tactics that led to a very unstable environment that made the club with 7 CL trophies lack participation in European competitions.
The management's decision to keep Pioli who's seat was influenced by ibrahimovic made sense in every way. This led to stability we lacked in yrs. Rangnick is a great coach but signing him was definitely going to take us a step back to rebuild the kind of young squad he requires
2) Zlatan's influence on the team is unlike any other player in the world, whether its Ronaldo with Juve or Haaland with fortmund. This guy's not only scoring decisive goals almost every single game, he's also influencing all the youngsters playing around him in many ways
Every player looks up to him, and his presence always pushes them to give more than 100% & whoever fails to do so finds himself left out like Samu at some point. In addition to his affect on youngsters، his numbers are crazy so far (10 Serie A goals & 1 assist in 6 games so far).
3) Our depth is unmatched since years, our midfield has transformed from having the likes of Honda, Birsa, Bertolacci & Mauri to Kessie & Bennacer who are really sought-after by the Giants of Europe. This duo offers an unmatched mix of physicality, technicality, & covering gaps-
-in the defence and offence in every match backed by their great stamina allowing them to be all over the pitch till the last minute. Both are under 24 and are playing for the club they want to be in, & will surely give us at least 3 more years in which they will further develop.
4) With an average squad age of 24.5 years (including the likes of Zlatan 39 & Kjaer 31), this season's squad is the youngest in the top 5 leagues, which allowed the mgt to sign promising players at very low wages (see the image). Players like Theo Bennacer & Leao earn 1.5m each
Signing young players that are neglected by their clubs or play in small clubs mixed with the weight of the milan shirt planted a strong desire of living up to the shirt's expectations in every player. Players like Leao RLLY developed because of zlatan's perception of the club
5) For the 1st time in yrs we finally have decent fullbacks able to perform in the defence & offence, developing from the likes of Armero & De Sciglio to Theo & Calabria, the impact of these 2 fullbacks was significant,especially with the GREAT improvement of Calabria this season
Theo started shining once joined, scoring 7 goals in his 1st season (Milan's top scorer for a long while back then), while his weakness was his defence. This season, he worked on his defence & we saw Pioli play him as a CB in one of the friendlies for the sake of improving
Calabria on the other hand, had a bumpy season last yr, when Pioli was alternating btwn him & Conti, in a season in which both were underperforming. The 2 were so bad that all fans wanted the mgt to sign a new RB. This season, calabria really developed into a more mature defender
We see him doing great tackles in the back, and helping in the attack with dangerous one twos like that with Hakan against Sampdoria. He plays with great Grinta cuz at the end of the day he is from our academy
This is a summary of the key points leading to #ACMilan's current form from the mgt to the key players who lead to this outstanding performance. I will create a new thread soon highlighting the concerns resulting from the current mgt's strategy. RT for support 🙌🏾 FORZA MILAN ❤
