Heres what I was told by my late stepfather, mother, uncle's & aunts. The church told my grandparents that Residential Schools were going to provide a good education for them. The church & Govt lied. What they did not know is it was to assimilate us & kill the Indian.
Erin O'Toole's statement is very clear. I'm so sick of Individuals, both Indigenous & non Indigenous officials taking stuff out of context.

A few of my aunties & uncle's are alive today and they told me time after time what happemed. It is exactly what Erin O'Toole stated. Once this was uncovered my family started taking their children to hide out at winter camps. My late mother was one of them.
The goal was to take the best lands away from us & assimilate us into white culture. That came with the ultimate price. 10,000 plus kids never to make it home. Sexual, physical & mental abuse occurred in these schools & destroyed generations to come. We feel those impacts today.
