THREAD that makes me really sad: Today England reported 23,432 new Covid cases - the highest since 14th November. New hospital admissions on 14th Dec (latest day) are the highest they've been this second wave. All regions except NW are going up & London, East & SE ⬆️ v fast. 1/3
As of 16th December, there were 15,465 patients with Covid-19 in English hospitals. This is the highest it's been since the Spring. Occupancy has risen by 20% since the end of lockdown. We are now only 20% below peak. 2/3
This is the situation a week before we head into Christmas where potentially millions of people will mix indoors with different households. This is a scary situation and I felt like crying when I saw these numbers. 3/3
