The prevalence of the coronavirus in LA County is higher than ever before: officials estimate that 1 in 80 people in the county are currently infectious with the virus.
Up until this point, the highest this figure had ever been was 1 in 140. In November, it was close to 1 in 1000.
"Slowing the spread of a virus when 1 in every 1,000 people are infected and infecting others is a very different story and astronomically easier than slowing the spread of virus when 1 in every 80 people are infected," LA County official Dr. Christina Ghaly said today.
