1/10 Were the banks bailed out during the financial collapse? The Taoiseach said in the Dáil today they were not. But the banks were bailed out and here is why.
2/10 The Oireachtas Banking Inquiry concluded: "While the cost of the banking bailout to the Irish people stands at €64 billion....it is worth stressing that the overall losses and capital wiped out by the crash amount to far in excess of this sum."
3/10 While the shareholders were wiped out many bondholders were controversially repaid. However, the Irish Government did burn some bondholders.
4/10 Today Micheál Martin said "shareholders in the banks were not bailed out, the State took equity."
