it's wild that at literally any point CD Projekt could've just said "hey we're so fucking sorry, we overestimated, we need more time with this, it'll be done when it's done and we'll give a new date when we know, we're sorry" and everyone would've been bummed but understanding
they had SO MUCH goodwill built up over the witcher than unless you were plugged in on some of the shittier marketing discourse (aka transphobia) you just knew "Witcher good, Cyberpunk sounds great" and would be willing to wait for it! everyone would've been cool with it!
(this is not to excuse or dismiss the transphobia or shitty racial stereotyping, etc, just pointing out that if you weren't Dialed Into Gaming, as most people who buy games are not, you probably didn't even know about it)
the stock price would've dipped, but been fine long term. no investors would've bailed on that cash cow over another delay after how successful the witcher was, esp after the Netflix series. they would've been fine in EVERY respect. they said themselves there was no pressure.
this is a disaster ENTIRELY of their own (by they I mean The Folks In Charge) making. super preventable, at so many different stages, by just chilling the hell out and not promising things and deadlines they couldn't deliver on
