I'm very happy about this, but hope that as part of this recognition MLB commits to fully supporting the institutions that have preserved and are currently preserving Negro Leagues history, and to educating the public about that history. https://twitter.com/lindseyadler/status/1339240198773858304
It's in the nature of what they were that the Negro Leagues weren't analogous to the American or National Leagues, but were, literally, a set of wildly varying leagues set up in different times and places, operating under differing circumstances.
It doesn't mean much to add a few home runs to Willie Mays's official total; it would mean a lot to institutionalize full, equal recognition of history at every park, in every official production, and by supporting museums and research groups with sizable checks.
