Well, it's been a really harsh year for everyone and after hearing from the region's filmmakers recently I thought that despite the toughest of years, it would be great to share some of the 2020 good news from the Midlands film community [thread - & please share your own too]
From dramas, comedies, documentaries & animations via shorts, features and online films, we have been honoured to review over 80 films on the site in 2020. It's been heart-warming to see so many projects completed even this year.
And it doesn't stop there! We are aware of over another 50 in production. Whether they have been delayed owing to Covid - or even filmed during the year - there's plenty more great films coming very soon from filmmakers who have had to dig deep X
Filmmakers, cast & crew were incredibly resourceful & collaborative during Covid. Their honest & helpful thoughts came through when we chatted to the Midlands film community last month. Take a read of parts 1 - 4 of how filmmakers tackled Covid head on - http://www.midlandsmovies.com
Mustn't forget the extremely hard work of all the people who contribute on local projects. One area that maintained its high quality was the great artist and photographers who produced Midlands film posters in 2020. Here’s just a small selection of their work:
Cinemas had the toughest year of all yet kudos to everyone who helped maintain these businesses. Despite varied periods of lockdown, from @derbyquad, @BroadwayCinema & @PhoenixLeic to so many others, the move to online screenings, re-opening safely & community support helped many

Film festivals such as @BHAMFILMFEST, @BeestonFilm Fest, @DerbyFilmFest @cineqbrum & so many more worked tirelessly to still put on events with screenings, training and even some well-deserved awards. Congrats all around to those fest orgs who adapted quickly
Blowing our own tiny trumpet, we were incredibly lucky to squeeze in our own Midlands Movies Awards. Perhaps one of the last group events in the region before lockdown, we had 120+ great submissions & 16 category winners this year to celebrate everyone's hard work
Acknowledgement to @DAfilms successfully continuing with the Back IN programme in #Birmingham, mobile-phone film @CyberlanteMovie making it to Amazon Prime, @JoeyLever finishing his 3 year Spiderman project + award wins for @FishbulbFilms Dead Air & @EmmelineHartley
A few more positive success stories include @Nick_Intrepid Outside the City getting national recognition, @NexusMidlands celebrating their 6th year anniversary, @Sam_Malley96 first film The Chase & Sib Ali's My Life on Camera detailing the filmmaker's own struggles with autism
But it doesn't stop there - everything on this thread is also just the tip of a large Midlands film iceberg. Everyone in the region deserves a huge round of applause for their film work in the most difficult of years
The film quality has been amazing & the passion from the community is unshakeable. With new opportunities coming such as Coventry City of Culture - we hope even more productions can get completed to keep the Midlands the premier place for filmmaking ♥️
