Fun fact: Banda Singh Bahadur literally abolished landlords during his journey to conquer Punjab in the name of religious freedom, justice, and to free Punjab from the grip of the Mughal ruling class who were exploiting the working class.

🧵time!
He freed the working class from their landlords who had been exploiting them by abolishing the Zamindari system that had kept the working class in a cycle of poverty and constant oppression.
He died in 1716 by execution.

Before his execution, they tortured him and his team of Sikhs to figure where they had hidden the treasure they had looted from multiple towns (which they had already distributed to the poor)
After 3 months of torture and imprisonment, they brought them out to a public area to be executed. They handed Banda Singh a knife and told them to kill his own 4-year-old son and after refusing they murdered his son first and then executed him.
Banda Singh's legacy is that of a martyr for Sikhi and the autonomy of Punjab. His bravery and courage inspired countless Sikhs after him and within 90 years of his death, the Sikh Empire was founded stretching from modern-day Afganistan and Pakistan, through to India.
