a rare grassland ecosystem exists in the dolomite glades of Bibb county, Alabama. It is home to quite a few remarkably beautiful endemic flowering plants like the Alabama pinkroot (Spigelia alabamensis). You may have seen it on the side of a @uhaul trailer on the highway. https://twitter.com/SuperGraphic/status/1209482661376471040
they even made a coloring sheet for the graphic! https://www.uhaul.com/SuperGraphics/File/27/ColoringBook
The ecosystem was first described by Georgia Botanist James Allison in 1992. Amy and I explored it this past spring, without even knowing about its significance. it was an amazing place. can't wait to go back.
herps were sunning themselves all over the dolomite outcroppings, and we even saw a black racer slither past some of the pinkroot flowers, which were just about to bloom.
