The @ScotGovernment launched the Climate Change Plan Update today. We've had a look. Christmas hasn't come early, but there is lots of interest. https://bit.ly/2IVopr7 There's a reminder of the committment to spend £500 million over 5 years on active travel. 1/5
We're excited to see the possibilities an 'active freeway' offers - though we know it will need much more than £50m to deliver a Scotland-wide active travel highway network. 2/5
We're also excited to see the inclusion of 20-minute neighbourhoods. Giving people amenities a short distance from home, and making neighbourhoods pleasant and safe to walk, cycle and wheel in is key to making this happen. And guess what, we support local business! 3/5
The plan highlights the need to change planning priorities and encourage localism and active travel and liveable cities infrastructure 4/5
Of course, the devil is in the detail. We'll be reviewing this in the coming days. But if we want to reduce carbon emissions from transport, we need to prioritise active and sustainable travel, create better places for everyone, and encourage people to think local. 5/5
