Canadian health officials are giving an update today on vaccine delivery. MGen Danny Fortin says CAN is looking to scale up to 70 points of use, right now 14 are ready. Thousands more ppl being trained to administer the vaccine, he says.
Fortin says more shipments of the Pfizer vaccine are coming in the weeks ahead. He says another 70 points of use will be added over the coming weeks in the provinces, but that depends on vaccine availability.
Asked about risk of transmission once you have a vaccine, Dr Njoo says more studies are needed to know exactly whether transmission will be lower from people who have received the vaccine. He says Pfizer study does show vaccinated ppl have drastically lower risk of getting COVID
MGen Fortin says everything in this first run went according to the trail runs. He does say processes may need to be reviewed and adjusted when large shipments start arriving
What info is CAN still waiting for on Moderna approval? Dr Njoo says the gov is moving forward with assumption Moderna will be approved. He points out the regulatory system is independent and gov is not putting pressure on them to make a decision but it should “be in near future”
