Comprehensive planning is a process that almost every other city uses to build a vision for future growth, development, and budget priorities in partnership with communities. The plan results in public policy for transportation, utilities, land use, open space, and housing. 2/
The crazy part? NYC has never *done* real comprehensive planning.

The current process is scattered, which is confusing and creates inefficiencies across all operations and policymaking. Here's our current "planning" process compared to what it *could* be:

Why all of this matters: Our lack of planning essentially forces communities into reactionary and defensive positions, which makes for a challenging land use review process that often fails to invest in communities or support equitable growth to solve our housing crisis. 4/
A new Comprehensive Planning Cycle would:
1️⃣ connect all processes/reports already required by the NYC Charter
2️⃣ streamline the process + engage New Yorkers in proactive land use planning
3️⃣ create a citywide strategic framework + vision to support equitable, inclusive growth
