Imho the biggest issue with Rogue One was they made the weakness in the Death Star an intentional deficit worked in to the design by a defector, rather than an unintentional flaw overlook and then cleverly exploited. https://twitter.com/Grace_Segers/status/1339235558158192644
The movie is fantastic as a standalone story, and I agree the third act is maybe the best thing a Star Wars movie ever produced, but that plot point bothers me in how much it undermines the central story of A New Hope.
There was a great thread on here that's sadly been deleted that explained this in detail but that angle - an overlooked flaw in the design of the superweapon - captures so much about the nature of fascist regimes that A New Hope was doing with the Empire. Such a shame to lose it!
