The concept of applying to jobs never felt intuitive to me.
Why wouldn't you just pick the company /you/ most wanted and dedicated time to networking, researching, and going above and beyond to get hired there?
At some point, it’s difficult to turn someone’s enthusiasm, agenticness, and competence down.
Even if you don’t get it, darned if you don’t get some warm contacts out of it at least, who might recommend you, or at least research experience with this process.

This is probably a product of me being young and in Silicon Valley, where startup hiring, especially for interns, does work like this.
