In the wake of the @WickerSheffClad prohibition last Friday I was asked by a resident how many other prohibitions I was aware of. I could think of 2 or 3 post #Grenfell so promised to do a bit of digging (thread
) wish I hadn't
@team_greenhalgh

June 2017 - New Lawrence House, Hulme. 300 residents evacuated, went to Court and they won in June 2020. This case was one that led to the collapse of East West Insurance https://www.theguardian.com/business/2018/sep/21/owners-manchester-flats-bills-safety-failings-fire-brigade-new-lawrence-house
June 2017 - Chalcots Estate, London 4,000 residents evacuated by @CamdenCouncil journalists reported significant omissions in the Fire Risk Assessment process and lack of remedial actions http://camdennewjournal.com/article/revealed-chalcots-tower-block-fire-risk-report-did-not-include-biggest-risk
August 2017 - Ledbury Estate, London, hundreds of residents evacuated due to structural concerns and potential for collapse in a gas explosion (as per Ronan Point in the 60's) https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-40891474
February 2019 - Appleton House, Bradford 120 residents evacuated due to cladding issues https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/18013854.bradford-high-rise-still-empty-nine-months-evacuated/
October 2020 - Paragon, Brentford, 900 residents in a @BerkeleyGroupUK modular development in @RuthCadbury MP constituency evacuated due to #BuildingSafety Concerns. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2020/oct/19/residents-evacuated-london-paragon-site-brentford
November 2020 - Victory Complex, Oldham, 60 residents in this Warwick Estates managed block evacuated over #FireSafety concerns. https://www.theoldhamtimes.co.uk/news/18842260.residents-leave-victory-apartment-block---deemed-unsafe-fire-chiefs/
December 2020 - Wicker Building, Sheffield 35 residents evacuated due to #FireSafety concerns in @PaulBlomfieldMP constituency. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-55286739
I don't know how many other blocks and innocent residents face a similar fate. I do know the trend fro prohibitions is up and as #BSF falls short and remediation bills start to land in January we are likely to see further rises. @mhclg must surely be modelling this?
These properties are exceptional as in they have been visited and inspected by our under resourced Fire and Rescue Services. This article shows the dramatic fall in inspection volume in High Rise Buildings https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/18719499.west-yorkshire-fire-safety-checks-hit-record-low/
Yet the Minister for Building Safety staunchly defends the current self regulatory Fire Safety regime, resists giving transparency of Fire Safety to residents in law and opposes the implementation of the #Grenfell inquiry recommendations.
Any journalists, fire chiefs, politicians, residents groups that think this situation is beyond ridiculous and would like to chat about how we can jointly solve the #BuildingSafety Crisis (despite Government indifference) pls DM me as happy to discuss.
If I have missed any blocks please let me know and I will add to the timeline.
