What @TheCrownNetflix has to do with #finserv:

If you are old enough to remember Princess Diana when she was alive (I was 27 when she passed) then you know she shook the Royal Family almost to its knees.

1/
What strikes me, watching the new season of The Crown, is she was doing it from the vantage point of a DIFFERENT GENERATION.

She was younger than anyone else in the family; she had different preferences, and she understood the people of Britain did too.

2/
Generations turn over every 25 years. Because it is one of those things where change happens slowly until it is sudden, people resist it.

3/
The generation in charge tends to grasp more firmly when they feel power slipping away – something that happened when Diana’s popularity started to soar.

It’s also what’s happening in #finserv where the push to recognize its diversity problem is becoming more evident.

4/
It’s also the dynamic that has caused #finserv to be behind in tech.

My #GenZDisruption theory is based on the idea that the people in charge of funding 15+ years ago, lacking any haptics of tech,

5/
did not invest in digital ecosystems at the rate they should have to stay relevant. And because the tendency of people in power (sadly) is to think they know everything, they failed to empower the next generation of leaders to lead on important things.

6/
Obviously this didn’t happen everywhere but it did happen at a macro level. #Finserv writ large is sitting on a tangled mess of IT stacks that everyone is now scrambling to unwind.

It didn’t have to be this way.

7/
Sooner than people think, #GenZ will arrive on the scene w/ their primary haptics of the smartphone & disruption will accelerate.

It’s why I suggest listening to the young people in your life rather than telling them to shut up b/c you think you know more.

8/
Imagine if every CEO had embraced the need for a #digitalecosystem 15-20 years ago -- e.g. started rewiring their co's back then to look like $AMZN did from the start..

9/
And then imagine if The Queen had listened to Diana from the beginning rather than shut her down?

I dare say we would all be sitting on very different endings.
