#Grudges #HumanRelationships

Often, I repeat a cliched sentence : Mortality is a strong teacher of life. I have had my moment of reckoning when I lost my mother.

However, this post is about grudges and complex human relationships. I will illustrate with an example

1/
We all have our extended families of cousins and 2nd level cousins. Beyond a point, the lines of relationship fade & we all know that so and so is our relation.

In my family, we had a guy. Let's call him X for illustration. A spoilt brat, he never had to work a single day

2/
Man of vices, he lead life on his own terms. We all had our tiffs with him (including yours truly)

2017 Feb : Marriage of one his cousin brother's son is arranged in Kerala. One of the 1st boys in next generation to get married. All of us travel to Kerala

3/
The marriage is a roaring success. X doesn't turn up. Groom's father was livid and gives a mouthful to X's sisters. This scene plays out with me in presence (I am the youngest of that lot).

Anyways, uncomfortable moments later, everyone disperses.

4/
I sit down with Groom's father and tell him to let go. He was fuming, quite understandable. However, somehow pacified him and returned to Bangalore.

2017 Mar: I get a call from another cousin. The news is an absolute shocker

5/
X has been found dead in his Apartment. Living solitary, his absence was identified with a stench from his apart.

When Police broke open his apartment, a half decomposed body was welcoming them. Known to be a drinker, he died with his peg in hand

6/
The scene was apparently gory (I didn't even bother to look at WA forwards). When the body was got after post-mortem, dogs were getting attracted to the stench and we had to shoo them away.

When they took him for cremation, I was left wondering

7/
What is the point of shouting and getting angry on him? What was the outcome of having grudge on him for such a small thing? Now, the person is no longer there in the world.

Next time, we wish to have grudges.. pause.. think.. Is it worth it? Human relations are complex
