I am saddened, amazed, but I guess not surprised that some people go off the rails during a high school competition in the midst of a pandemic where we should be happy the kids are getting an experience to be together and compete.
Do AD's and coaches want winning to be a part of that experience? Absolutely, we are competitive by nature or we wouldn't be in this business. But winning does not/should not ever replace the big picture of what the ultimate goal of education based athletics is about.
I'm afraid if/when there is a return to normal we will have already forgotten the joy and privilege of playing, competing and having the opportunity. It saddens me that this will not have been learned.
Life is short and often times fragile. Perspective is sometimes lost. To may AD and Coach friends my encouragement is to continue to teach, believe and remind yourself of your why and never apologize for it.
There are more that believe in you and what you do than those that don't. Those that don't should not have a seat at your table or be able to cloud your mind with doubt. "Never take criticism from someone you would not take advice from."
