Bertha Wegmann began her lifelong friendship with Swedish artist Jeanna Bauck when both were students in Munich. In 1881 Wegmann painted her warmly affectionate "Portrait of Jeanna Bauck": a testament to friendship and a statement of respect for a fellow artist. #WomensArt
In the 1880s Bertha Wegmann, by then a well-established artist, was mentor to the young Copenhagen art student Marie Triepcke, and painted this portrait of her: "A Young Woman, Marie Triepcke, Sitting in a Boat" (1884). Triepke was later better known as Marie Krøyer. #WomensArt
