This from Joanna Dreby is really important. Re: deportation of Remy Espinoza, who lived in US 34 years, she explains "his children were denied the right to live w their father."
Children born in US denied THEIR RIGHT to family unity. #ReuniteUS https://www.timesunion.com/opinion/article/Commentary-For-children-immigration-enforcement-15798872.php

She lays out commonsense changes of attitude + policy for @Transition46 + all of us:
1) Do not arrest/detain parents for immig violations, especially in front of children. Parents remain home until cases resolve. They are not flight risks; children tie them to communities.

2) Parents of USCs should be eligible for deport waivers on assumption separation = hardship. Current bar to prove hardship is too high, arbitrarily applied, may require kids to plead cases. Parent deportation violates USC right to pursuit of happiness by living in stable family.
3) Funding must shift from enforcement to courts, to resolve immigration cases more quickly. The longer cases unfold, the more disruptive + involved children become, more likely trauma results. [I'd add - if court system is fixed to be impartial/not political]
"Alone, each measure is not enough; together they can better protect children."
