Hey all, any recommendations on BIPOC, women, and/or LGBTQ+ farmers in North & South Carolina?
Currently googling around but a lot of folks don't have that much of an online presence. Casting as big a net as possible here.
Clarification: I'm looking for people to source small-scale & eventual wholesale food purchasing from. So, commercial farm recs only.

Quirky homesteaders are having a good time I'm sure, but not who I'm looking for lol
Getting some "why don't you just use Google, stupid?" questions, so let's talk about it.
Believe it or not, I did! It's the obvious first step when you want to find something, right?

And yet a lot of the farms that are showing up here in the replies, that could be a really great partner for growing vegetables, are either pages deep in the Google results or absent.
Google search results "Black farmers North Carolina" does pull up some really good resources, like Triangle-based https://blackfarmersmkt.com/  and its directory of farmers.
That said, there are a *lot* of directories for Black farms, and they all have a slightly (or very) different assortment of farms in them.

So depending on which directory someone uses, they may or may not ever find a given local farm that way.
This is a classic problem with small & medium-sized businesses & building an online presence.

Having a website is completely different from people being able to FIND that website.

Most small businesses, mine included, are NOT as visible as we think we are.
And that's just for small/medium businesses in general.

Added to that, it's not exactly a secret that tech companies & their algorithms don't prioritize BIPOC well-being. Assuming that google search results for, say, Black farms are comprehensive would be really naive.
That's why it's good to use ALL the resources at your disposal: to make sure that the many operations that fall through the Google cracks still get found.

Word of mouth. Checking in with formal BIPOC farm orgs & extension agents. And yes, social media.
A lot of the farms that followers rec'd yesterday either take several pages of search results to show up, are buried deep in directories, or just straight don't appear on search results at all.

tl;dr If you're serious about finding BIPOC farms, use google AND ask around.
