Top 5 mistakes I made as a junior developer

1. I didn't ask questions, thinking that people would think the questions are stupid.
I thought people would judge me. But there are no stupid questions.
So ask questions, no matter how stupid you think they are.

2. I spent way too much time watching tutorials rather than writing code.
I felt into the trap of watching "just 1 more tutorial". And that tutorial became 5 tutorials, and so on. By the time, I finished with tutorials, nothing would stick in my head.
Write code, a lot of code!

3. I didn't take risks. I only did tasks I felt comfortable doing. I didn't push myself out of comfort zone.
Thus, I stayed at the same level, and I didn't progress as a developer. To go to the next level, you should always get out of your comfort zone.
Punch above your weight!

4. I listened to social media "gurus" that tell you life is all about coding. That you need to code 24/7 to be a good developer.
Thus, I burnt out twice. Let that be a lesson! Life is more than work and programming. Enjoy it because it's short!

5. Being too quiet in meetings. Don't be afraid to speak up your mind.
If you're a junior, it does not mean you have nothing to say. Contribute how you can, when you can, with what you can.
You're a junior developer, and you're valuable!
