We fail to notice that the honour of the believer isn’t confined to being sensual, as it could also be a matter of moral honour

Just as Zina/adultery is an assault of someone’s honour, Gheeba/Backbiting is also an assault on someone’s honour - they are both severe transgressions

when the Prophet was asked how could that be, he responded that the one who commits Zina may repent and Allah will forgive them, whereas the backbiter is not forgiven by Allah until they are forgiven by the individual(s) they have backbitten.
Another example is the consumption of Alcohol, we know it to be a huge sin and condemn it as such - whereas it has been narrated that Imam al-Baqir ع said: ‘For evil there are locks, the keys to which is drinking, and lying is a greater evil than drinking’
essentially there is an evident double standard in our communities when it comes to the condemnation of different sins, and it is especially the sins that are unfortunately so prominent amongst our social gatherings that are overlooked
and strong condemnation is almost exclusively directed towards those sins that are also culturally or traditionally deplorable
