Lots of new details about the NL vaccination plan. It's time for a thread!
In the first 3 months of 2021 Newfoundland and Labrador expects to vaccinate 37,000 people. This is just 6% of the population. Most of these will be the Pfizer vaccine #covid19nfld
We have an older population, so we don't expect to be able to use the first doses to get everyone over 80, like other places in the country will. The first doses will be healthcare workers #covid19nfld
There are no plans right now to lessen any of the public health restrictions as vaccinations roll out, only a small part of the population will be vaccinated #covid19nfld
The only ultra cold freezers in the province are currently in St. John's, so the Pfizer vaccine won't be distributed anywhere else in the province until we get more freezers in January. #covid19nfld
The Pfizer vaccine will be delivered to St. John's, Gander, Corner Brook, Labrador City/Wabush and Happy Valley - Goose Bay #covid19nfld
The Moderna vaccine will be a lot more useful for this province's geography, but we're getting less doses of it (we don't get to pick and choose, we get what we get) #covid19nfld
The general public won't start getting vaccinated until late June at the earliest, says Dr. Janice Fitzgerald based on info they have now #covid19nfld
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald is emphasizing this is a fluid plan, so all these details could change as the number of doses available change  #covid19nfld
Dr. Fitzgerald calls this the beginning of the end, but "we really are only about half way there" in this pandemic #covid19nfld
Despite being more likely to get and import the disease, rotational workers will not be part of the early roll out, they'll have to wait. Dr. Fitzgerald says the priority is those most likely to get severe disease and healthcare workers #covid19nfld
"Everyone on the team has a spring in their step today," says Dr. Fitzgerald, being able to give the first vaccines is truly historic. Says there's a sense of hope and light at the end of the tunnel #covid19nfld
