Rise of post-neoliberal neo-statism as new meta-ideological horizon in post-Covid times key to understand contemporary ideology.
Many continue to focus on familiar theoretical punchball of neoliberalism. But it's like beating a drowning dog. Enemy and battefield have changed.
True that neoliberalism's death has been announced far too many times. As long as there is capitalism there will be liberalism in some way or form. But theory of neoliberalism does not explain anymore many of the political trends of our reality.
The ideology of the contemporary Right shows this clearly. Right-wingers are doing at least partly away with 3 out of the 4 key tenets of neoliberalism (low taxation; commercial laissez-faire; monetary/fiscal conservativism; vapid multicultural openness).
Material interests behind neoliberalism are still very strong. Think about multinational corps that depend on commercial laissez-faire for their system of global production. Yet, some are starting to reconsider the (economic and political) convenience of global externalisation.
