For the not particularly thoughtful naysayers, the reason these studies keep saying things like “at least six months” is the disease is only several months old. There’s literally no way to prove immunity will last longer until “longer” has occurred. That said, it will be longer.
“But some people still tested positive a second time!” Yes, the immune system is *inside* the body and works *after* virus enters. The immune system then beats down the itty bitty infection. That will sometimes be caught by a test. Doesn’t mean those patients are Typhoid Mary.
In fact, the opposite. You’ve all heard about viral load. Someone with active immunity and no symptoms is *much* less likely to produce enough virus to infect someone else than a random well person who hasn’t been immunized.
Reminder. There will never be perfect immunity. However, the immunity produced by the vaccine and the infection are excellent. This is as good as it gets.
