My name is Beck, I am a Young Champion and I have recently been diagnosed with ADHD.
Today I'm going to be sharing my experience with you all, to try and raise understanding of a highly stigmatised disorder.

For those of you that aren’t aware ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It is classed as a Neurodevelopmental Disorder. I wanted to start my tweets with a few facts that are shocking:
In the UK alone an estimated 1.5 million adults have ADHD. How many adults do you think are formally diagnosed?

Why is this? ADHD is:
highly stigmatised
underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed
under resourced (mainly adults)
and often completely misunderstood
This can especially be the case for girls and women, which you can read more about here https://bit.ly/38cOJ8L

Having #ADHD does not mean you:
have bad behaviours
are lazy
are stupid
can't be successful
It presents differently in so many people, and can really impact your daily life.
The journey will more than likely be hard, but you achieve what you set your mind on.

Living with un-diagnosed #ADHD until my late 20s has contributed to anxiety, depression and self-doubt.
This has been reinforced through other people's responses to my behaviour, thoughts or certain traits as they've found them difficult to understand.

Having a diagnosis and doing my own research has given me so much understanding of my past and current behaviours.
It makes so much sense, and explains why life has seemed such struggle all my life.
It's why even ‘easy’ everyday tasks have often felt hard, and been neglected.
