Why congress doesn't actually want to give Americans more relief money: (A THREAD)

America NEEDS its citizens to be preoccupied with debt and work. Those in power are terrified of an idle population.

(1/10)
They're terrified because if we don't give all our focus to our work, then where might we refocus that attention?

On them.

On the problems of society.

On all the bullshit they've been pulling for decades.

(2/10)
You might think this is an over-exaggeration of that fear, and sure, maybe this is why they'll never allow a universal basic income, but it can't be a reason to stop a little stimulus check? Except it totally is, because...

(3/10)
What happened when they gave us just $1200? Just a moment of breathing room?

What did they get in response?

The largest political unrest in decades.

So...

They aren't wrong.

(4/10)
We wear blinders 24/7, and the bullshit that surrounds us is so overwhelming that if we take those blinders off, for even just a second, our field of vision is immediately overwhelmed by how much we've let ourselves be taken advantage of for decades.

(5/10)
It's not an accident that income hasn't grown with inflation. We are more efficient than ever before, by so many factors, that we technically should be able to pay people to NOT work and STILL make huge profits.

(6/10)
BUT, spreading the profits of that efficiency would lead to those idle hands being primed for holding picket signs.

So instead, only the rich, who benefit from status quo in society, are allowed to benefit from improvements in efficiency.

And the poor?

(7/10)
They get labeled as essential workers that aren't allowed to stop working, even if it kills them. Literally.

So... what can we do?

Lose the blinders anyway. Even if think we can't afford to. Voting in every election, sure. But also, protesting when things aren't right.

(8/10)
In other words, giving a shit. Caring. *Especially* caring about the plight of others, even when it isn't your problem.

It's a heavy burden to worry about how to feed your family, pay your rent, AND be the watchers over how everyone else is treated.

(9/10)
But it's only when we all do it, look out for each other, that we can know someone is looking out us too.

This is all fairly obvious, but it's a good reminder, every once in a while, that never will people worth millions be more powerful than millions of people.
