Everyone wants change but no one wants to change. There's  a saying, “Nothing changes if nothing changes.” If nothing changes, we stay the same. We don’t grow. We don’t evolve. We don’t get better. And that’s not going to work—not for you, and not for the country and Africa.
If nothing changes, we stay corrupt, we stay poor, we stay complaining. We continue to watch as our resources a looted to the detriment of the masses.
We're all tired of the corruption, the looting, the poverty and the lies. But how many of us are willing to be the change we want to see? All change starts within an individual.
A month or so ago, a story was published about a ZRA official who refused a ZMW 1 million bribe. The comments showed that we're part of the rot and corruption because 90% of the comments were about how dull he was or about how it was inconceivable that he would turn it down.
Are we so short of integrity that corruption must be the norm? How many of us turn a blind eye to corruption or even facilitate it? How many of us leave ZP "ya drink" as opposed to paying the fine? We're all part of the rot and unless we change ourselves, nothing will change.
It's time we stopped looking to others to turn this country around and start doing what we can in our own circles to influence and perpeuate the change we want to see.
There is absolutely no reason why this wealthy nation should be as poor as it is. Only once we clean up our house can we adequately deal with the external factors that perpeuate our poverty and decay. The change starts with us.
This may sound idealistic but we will never achieve the ideal if we don't strive for it. It may seem that our individual change isn't enough, but one change will spark another and who knows, a movement may be born. But it starts with you. It starts with me.
