This afternoon my 4yr old asked to feed the fish. I said he could but that they just needed a little pinch. He put in enough food to feed the dog.
Thread.
Thread.
So I jumped up and grabbed the net and scooped out the handful of food. I brought it to the sink to rinse it out and noticed that the beta fish was in there too.
So I dropped some choice curses and dumped the poor little guy into my hand. I ran him under the tap to rinse off the food he had bejazzled himself with. I carried him back to the tank in cupped hands.
I opened my hands and he lay there, seemingly lifeless. I opened the tank hoping for the best. I went to toss him in. He had evidently been waiting for this moment to make his move.
He leapt out of my hand like a phoenix from the fire and straight up disappeared. Gone.
I got down on my hands and knees. 4 got down with me too but this was more of a symbolic gesture as he was no help. There, under the shelves, the escape had come up woefully short.
Picking up a wet beta fish off of a laminate floor is like trying to physically touch a song. You know there is something there on the edge of your fingertips. It was difficult but I knew time was not on my side.
I don't know how I got him. I think I blacked out. Maybe a higher power took the wheel. Not for me to judge. Anyways, I got him.
I dropped him into the tank and he swam off as if nothing happened. 4 looked at me with wonder. We had shared something.
Anyways, fish seems fine now.
