Nationally-ranked for the first time in history, @UBFootball is enjoying its winningest 4-year run since the 1950s, & if recruiting ratings are any indicator, even greater success could be on the horizon. (Thread)
Ahead of tomorrow’s early signing day, @247Sports rates Buffalo’s current crop of commitments in a class above any other that Lance Leipold & his staff have brought to campus.
16 of 17 players listed as “hard commits” are rated as 3-star recruits by @247Sports composites. Over the 5 signing classes that make up the current team, 32/103 recruits had 3-star grades.
UB’s class is rated 2nd in the MAC & 77th nationally by @247Sports. From 2016-20, UB ranked 9, 9, 12, 7, 12 in MAC, & 118, 113, 136, 106, 131 nationally.
Not once in the top half of MAC, median rank 9th, bottom 25 nationally on average, during a period in which UB has won more games than any other MAC program & rose to the T25.
Of course, record-breaking running back @__JP26 will tell you that star ratings don’t measure recruiting classes all that well. https://twitter.com/__JP26/status/1333920872676155397
UB led the MAC w/ 12 all-conference selections for the 2nd straight year, & only DT Eddie Wilson was rated as a 3-star recruit. None of the 7 players on the 1st or 2nd All-MAC teams had 3-star ratings.
Talked w/ @CoachLeipold & @ByTimGraham on a recent TGAF podcast about @UBRecruiting surge (21:20), star ratings, player development, spring football recruiting in NYS, local walk-ons & the importance of facility upgrades.
