So you're ready to make your website... but where do you start?

There are 3 things you need
1. A domain
2. A website builder
3. A plan

What's a domain?

A domain is your website URL

Mine is http://brittanytrinh.com

Costs less than $20/year, depending on where you get it

My two faves are @Namecheap and Google Domains

(Add it to your Christmas list!)
How to choose a domain name

Your name OR your personal brand's name (social media usernames)

Make sure it's memorable!

Stick to .com if you can - it's the most well-known ending, or TLD (top level domain)

I would avoid numbers, dashes, etc unless it's relevant
How to choose a website builder

Before you go and compare website builders, ask yourself

1. What are my goals?
2. What features do I need to reach the goal?
3. What's my budget?
Basic rundown:

Choose Google Sites or @owlstown if you want something super simple

Choose free http://WordPress.com  if you want to start a blog

Choose self-hosted http://WordPress.org  or Squarespace if you want more customization and functions
Before you start opening up the website builder, you need a solid plan

You would not start an experiment without the proper procedure and reagents

In web design, you don't start designing until you have CONTENT

Spend some time brainstorming what you want on your website
