Dear @ChiPubSchools, @janicejackson, @LDMcDade and @chicagosmayor, I heard one Principal describe your re-opening planning efforts as "as imperfect as it can get."
This was after your Principal's meeting today where y'all theoretically laid out more plans, rules, frameworks.

I understand this is a tough situation - it's still a *~pandemic~*.
Dropped off toiletry donations to students at a HS running aid for a local shelter. Students are thinking about the right things right now - how to survive, how to help each other and how to build community.

It's disingenuous for @chicagosmayor & @janicejackson to accuse @CTULocal1 for wanting to deny parents a choice in education.
Leadership's language is a lot like school voucher language. If you want to divest, then divest and be honest about it.

I listened to another Principal say she met with Principals in Atlanta, New York and other cities - they were all struggling with issues of re-opening.
In Chicago, we still have political corruption built into CPS and the City, cronyism, unclean government. The Chicago Way.

It doesn't seem like it factors into school decisions - but then we see reporting from @BetterGov and @MilaKoumpilova about $1.6m contracts being given to campaign donors.
I get @chicagosmayor doesn't like the press treatment. Best way to get better treatment? Do better.

We see things like @ChiPubSchools try to union-bust by posting new jobs for folks with no benefits and minimum wage to go work in a ~*pandemic*~. Yep, we're still in one.
Meanwhile, all the mid-upper level staffers who make $$$ aren't called into schools....

Curious just how many non-school based staff we have and how much they cost us?
You can take a look! But many won't be called into schools to help. It's only for students and teachers - it's not actually an all hands on deck approach.

And then we get to the safety issues! As @markPsupanich prepares his remarks for tomorrow's Board of Education meeting, I hope @ChiPubSchools answers the questions on MERV-13 filters, CDC guidelines, EPA guidelines and for the love of anything...
WORKING SINKS
WORKING SINKS
So many communities are rejecting re-opening plans. They do it through their in-person surveys.
West Lawn School - 33%
Woodlawn School - 32%
Morgan Park - 30%
Back of the Yards - 21%
And more! One school's LSC tonight passed a resolution to halt the reopening plan in full!

I don't always know what it takes to get @ChiPubSchools to listen. Another parent asked today how we get disaggregated re-opening statistics transparently.
I suggested emailing Adrian Segura - the Deputy Chief of Family and Community Engagement. His email is [email protected].

Adrian was telling parents on parent meetings to choose in-person, thereby inflating those statistics allowing CPS to spin the data in their communications shop, so they have the option.
That's not engagement!
That's not engagement!
Principals were telling parents to do this too - I can only assume this was a directive from CPS Leadership.
So, if you have something to say - maybe emailing Janice will work.

Or the Mayor, even though she didn't like press treatment, she clearly doesn't understand the power her position holds for good or for worse, over our lives.
Let the city hear from us. We are better together, despite our leaders right now.
