Today is Kuchela Dinam.

Kuchela Dinam is celebrated on the first Wednesday of Malayalam Month of Dhanu.
It was this day Kuchela ( Sudhama) went to meet his Childhood friend Shri Krishna at Dwaraka.

Kuchela who was very poor, was requested by his wife to seek Krishna’s help, who was the King of Dwaraka. Kuchela did not wish to go bare-handed to meet his friend. So Kuchela’s wife went several houses and handed over

Aval (poha)tied in a piece of cloth to offer to the Bhagwan. There were hardly three mouthfulls of the “aval” when Kuchela reached Dwarka

Krishna who saw Kuchela approaching the palace from far, was very happy that he ran out into the streets to embrace him.

Kuchela was escorted into the palace by Krishna. Shri Krishna made him sit on his throne and along with Rukminidevi washed Kuchelan’s feet and served with food.

Krishna spotted the aval ( poha) that Kuchelan was attempting to hide.

Krishna grabbed it from Kuchela and ate mouthful of it.
From that movement poverty disappeared from Kuchelan’s house. Thus Aval Nivedhyam is considered famous for Shri Krishna.
