THREAD: I've spent the last 7+ years as an entrepreneur in transportation. I've circled the globe learning about urban mobility & have my 10k hours.

From my perspective, @JoeBiden was wise to appoint @PeteButtigieg to be the next #TransportationSecretary

Here's why:
1/5 #SecretaryPete is a mayor

Mayors get sh*t done. Mayors understand the needs of citizens far better than governors or federal bureaucrats. Great mayors ride the bus. Great mayors use bikeshare. Great mayors push to prioritize public space for people, rather than cars.
2/5 #SecretaryPete is a DOT outsider

Status quo at DOT wasn't working. It's all about cars, highways, oil, and gas. It will take an outsider to reimagine DOT to be smarter, bolder, and lead the transition away from an auto-dependent society.
3/5 #SecretaryPete is intelligent

Beyond book smart, he's self aware. He knows what he doesn't know. @PeteButtigieg will surround himself with brilliant transportation minds from the public sector, private sector, non-profits, and academia. Plus can speak to Dems and Rs.
4/5 #SecretaryPete *actually knows* transportation

My first encounter with @PeteButtigieg was in December 2018 at a @washingtonpost event in DC. His fluency of Vision Zero, micromobility, and technology was impressive. https://www.washingtonpost.com/post-live-december-2018-technology-202-live/?utm_term=.607ed4281d3c
5/5 #SecretaryPete is inspiring

This might be his best gift. He'll inspire great leaders and innovators to join him, lifting the DOT above the gridlock that has become all too normal.
